Role Description:

The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for maintaining the company’s database systems, a Microsoft SQL Architecture including backup, performance tuning, capacity planning, monitoring critical events, and documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, design and implement database structures.
  • Define and maintain physical structures, ensuring the best possible performance and recoverability of databases.
  • Perform backup and recovery tasks on local and remote environment (DRS).
  • Maintain data integrity and security (manage roles and permissions of database users).
  • Use tools like SQL Profiler for database tuning. Generate traces, execution plans, identify performance issues, deadlocks/contention and resolve them.
  • Conduct design reviews to meet physical and performance demand for storage and response time requirements.
  • Develop strategies and implement solutions for managing back-ups, restoration and replication.
  • Conduct DBMS system maintenance tasks to ensure uptime and expected business performance.
  • Write database documentation including data standards/procedures and definitions for the data dictionary.
  • Develop, test, and provide instructions for back-up and recovery plans.
  • Ensure that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly.
  • Conduct capacity planning monitoring and forecasts schedules for storage and server performance tuning.
  • Confers regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security model standards are followed consistent with company governance.

General Knowledge and Skills:

  • 8-15 years’ experience in administering MS SQL server databases; preferably on later versions of versions of MS SQL such as SQL Server 2012 and later
  • Extensive experience writing T-SQL and stored procedures and query tuning on high-transaction systems
  • Minimum of eighr (8) years of experience administering databases in Oracle and SQL operating systems environment.
  • Experienced in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)
  • Experienced in ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) development/data integration
  • Experience in SQL Server Clustering and High Availability (HA) technologies including mirroring, log shipping, failover cluster and various replication technologies
  • Knowledge of other databases like MySQL, No SQL databases and in-memory databases and MCTIP certification would be desirable
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices and procedures of database administration.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and/or Computer Engineering or related field from accredited college or university.

Must:

  • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
